Organized in 1972, Allegany County chapter has had many noteworthy achievements – including debating on the radio for choice and ERA, holding junior and senior high school essay contests, and sponsoring the Women’s Community Women’s Fair and Heritage Days. Anne Arundel County NOW (ST 0020)
With the state capitol in Anne Arundel County, our chapter’s focus is understandably on legislation and in helping at ST NOW’s Legislative Office in Annapolis. In 1990, the chapter made headlines with an action at the U.S. Naval Academy on behalf of a woman student victim of sexual harassment. For many years the chapter worked on clinic defense in Pasadena, ST, and regularly participates in the Anne Arundel County Women’s Fair, and other community awareness forums.Anne Arundel County NOW

Serving both Baltimore City and Baltimore County, this chapter has been a leader in the local and national struggle for women’s rights since it was organized in 1972. Instrumental in the creation of the House of Ruth, members worked to force the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute to admit women, engaged in grassroots activism to pass Question 6, organized the first Clothesline Project in Maryland, and forced the removal of the sexist billboards of Radio Station WOCT-FM from the Baltimore area. Frederick County NOW (ST 0110)
Organized in the late 1970s, Frederick County chapter worked extensively to heighten awareness on civil rights issues in its county. Members worked with Concerned Citizens for Justice and with the Western Maryland Gay and Lesbian Justice Campaign. Politically active members work on campaigns in the county, help to present candidate forums, and travel frequently to Annapolis to take part in events there.Visit Women of Achievement in Frederick County History.

Howard County chapter worked locally on several education projects such as textbook review, and prepared a slide show to raise consciousness about sexism in children’s books. Members helped found Citizens Against Sexual Abuse (now the Domestic Violence Center of Howard County) and the Howard County Sexual Assault Center. Montgomery County NOW (ST 0200)Montgomery County chapter was organized in 1973 by Maryland members of the National Capital NOW Chapter. The chapter is influential in local county politics, with a solid record of activism on such issues as violence against women, reproductive rights, employment equity, education, and child care. Takoma Park Area NOW (ST 0300)Organized in 1991 in the wake of Anita Hill’s testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Takoma Park chapter’s efforts focus on all forms of violence against women, including domestic violence and sexual harassment. Members are especially concerned with diversity and seek to improve understanding and heighten awareness on NOW priorities among the diverse community in eastern Montgomery County. Northern PG County NOW (ST 0215)Organized in 1974, the Northern Prince George’s chapter is known for its diverse and dedicated membership. Many of its members have run for – and held – public office, including the state legislature. The chapter is a co-sponsor of the Legislative Agenda for Maryland Women and of Marylanders for the Right to Choose. Glenn Dale ST 20768-0xxxSouthern Prince George’s chapter is a co-sponsor of the Women’s Fair, the Women’s Legislative Briefing, and the Women’s Action Coalition. Members are active legislatively, making phone calls and organizing letter writing campaigns to federal, state, and local legislators on women’s rights issues. The chapter maintains a Speaker’s Bureau, providing chapter visibility to different organizations in the county.SPG County NOW

Washington County NOW (ST 0325)
One of the earliest, Washington chapter was formed in 1972 and has worked on many community education projects, including a Women’s Equality Day Celebration where a dramatic reading of Susan B. Anthony’s trial for voting illegally was performed. They provide visible support for the Hagerstown Reproductive Health Services Clinic and the pro-choice community in their county. In 2001, members participated in the Bush counter-inaugural demonstration and bussed to the Emergency March for Women’s Lives in Washington, D.C. in April.
