Sarah Nicole Wibe
Throughout all of my endeavors, I remember that:
"We are all creators. We breathe. To speak is to form breath and to make
manifest sound into the world. As I write I create myself again and again. Re-Create.
And breathe. And I see that I am not one voice, but many: all colors, all sounds,
all fears, all loves." - Joy Harjo, Creek American Indian.
Greetings! My name is Sarah Nicole Wibe and I am a twenty-three year old Southern Californian who seeks to empower others and give voice to all. I am a passionate student of life and a hard working agent of change.
I currently work at University of the Pacific in Stockton California, where I will graduate In May 2006 with my Masters in Educational Administration emphasis in Student Affairs in Leadership. I am an alumna of California State University Northridge where I majored in Communication Studies emphasis in the media and minored in Women's Studies. When my Father, a feminist in his own right, discovered I was taking an intro to women's studies course he inquired about the different women's studies classes offered and said, "Well then I think you should take all of them!"And so I did!
Born in San Diego, I danced to the beat of a different drummer. My Dad taught me to set goals and achieve them, a skill that I embraced. My Mom, came out as a lesbian when I was a small child. She persevered in corporate healthcare both as a woman and a lesbian where she and her partner (Mom Number Two) role modeled strength and compassion for my brother and I. From a young age I understood the way that power and privilege in society affected me and my three loving parents supported by commitment to doing something about it. After car care lessons from my Dad I gave a speech in 7th grade on "How to change the oil in your car,"and one of my male peers replied "Girls can't work on cars!"From that day on I was a feminist! I began as an activist in high school working with amnesty international and local volunteer organizations.
After a life changing experience in college I dedicated myself to making sure
that my voice was never taken away again. I committed myself to listening and
helping others find their voices as well; since then I have become a member
of NOW, co-Directed campus productions of Vagina Monologues, spearheaded Take
Back the Night Rallies, worked on Women's Leadership Planning Committees,
planned co-curricular programs to educate and end violence against women, raise
awareness about sexual assault, economic equality and global women's issues.
I have coordinated multi-cultural initiatives, taught an oppression reduction
course, rallied with NOW, Breast for Bombs and other local activist groups and
recently received the University of the Pacific "Woman of Distinction
Award."
