About Karisha Fenton

My name is Karisha Fenton and I am new to the task force. My current NOW activities include serving as a Board member for the Detroit NOW chapter and serving as a member of the planning committee for Walk NOW 2008 (a fundraiser for the Michigan NOW Foundation). The issues I am most passionate about are 1) ending violence against women and girls, 2) economic justice for women and 3) reproductive rights. I was a 2007 and 2008 community campaign organizer for V-Day, an organization that works to end global violence against women and girls. I also volunteer as a support group facilitator for survivors of domestic violence.
I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. I currently serve as the chair of the Homeownership committee for the local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta and facilitate workshops teaching all aspects of homeownership, including foreclosure prevention and financial literacy.
I am a new field organizer for the Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Michigan, working in the metro-Detroit area. Prior to my position with Planned Parenthood, I founded WellSpring Women's Resource Center, a non-profit organization serving the women of Detroit.
I discovered my passion for working for women's rights while pursuing my Master of Public Administration degree from The University of Michigan. My daily inspiration comes from my two daughters, Kassidy (3) and Kendall (1). I fight because I want to make the world a better place for them, and for women and girls everywhere.
