About Kristin Eismin

Kristin Eismin

I have been an advocate for women's rights since I can remember. In my 8th grade speech class, I brought a coat hanger as a visual aid for my pro-choice presentation. Since then, I have been actively participating for human rights.

During college, I founded the Purdue Chapter of NOW, where we organized some very creative ways to reach the community, including giant genitalia and sperm piñatas for sex education; wedding rings, cakes and invitations for freedom to marry; a cemetery of coat hangers in protest of an anti-choice event; and several movie screenings in honor of the anniversary of the 19th amendment, Roe v. Wade, and freedom to marry day.

I strongly believe that education is the key to eliminating injustice and inequalities. As a graduate instructor for two years of feminist theory, I saw just how powerful education is to the world. It's so amazing to see individuals become enlightened.

To earn my Master's degree in Sociology and Women's Studies, I did an in-depth study of how the Indiana Chapter of NOW used the Internet to mobilize for collective action. After graduating, I joined the Indiana NOW board and organized the 2007 Indiana NOW Conference, where the women of Indiana were graced with Erin Matson's Keynote as well as a welcome address from Purdue University's first female President, Dr. France Cordova.

Last year, I took a job as the outreach coordinator for the Lafayette YWCA Domestic Violence Program. My job entails fundraising, organizing large community events, one-on-one problem solving, as well as public presentations. While some may shy from speaking in front of an audience, I have no qualms.

I have been fortunate enough to be graced with wonderful opportunites to empower women. I look forward to working closely with all the great women of NOW… towards liberty and justice for all.
