NOW NATIONAL LEADERS TO APOLOGIZE FOR RESPONSES TO O.J. SIMPSON CASE

to allies on racial justice issues

WHY:

To apologize for and to repudiate racially insensitive statements made
by or attributed to local NOW leaders, particularly NOW L.A. Chapter President
Tammy Bruce.

To announce immediate steps to rectify this situation approved by NOW's
41-member national board of directors last weekend in New Orleans, during
their first meeting since the Simpson verdict.

To strengthen NOW's work with allies in the civil rights and women's movements
on pressing issues such as affirmative action and redistricting.
