NOV. 9, 1995

WHO : National NOW President Patricia Ireland, together with Southern California NOW activists and allies

WHAT : Will stage a picket and zap action at Gov. Pete Wilson's Conference on Women

WHEN : Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1995

7:30 a.m. picket begins

WHERE Long Beach, Calif., Convention Center, Pine Avenue side

WHY : To protest Gov. Pete Wilson's role in leading the attack on affirmative action and to launch NOW's 1996 Equality Countdown Campaign.

The campaign involves defeating oppressive initiatives such as California's anti-affirmative action ballot measure, turning out the women's vote in unprecedented numbers and electing feminist candidates in coordinated, flood-the-ticket-style campaigns. A key component of the campaign is the Fight the Right March set for April 14 in San Francisco.
