NOW/PAC PUTS VOTERS' GUIDE, VIDEO AND MORE ONLINE

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24, 1996

The National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW/PAC) is waging a '90s-style campaign this election season. Activists are augmenting their traditional field organizing and candidate endorsement strategies with an extensive web site and a five-minute video.

The web site features an unprecedented online feminist voters' guide that not only rates the incumbents, but the challengers, too. More than 200 candidates for Congress in 33 states are evaluated based on their level of support for:

Web users can also look up a list of candidates endorsed by NOW/PAC. The list includes 100 candidates as of October 22, and links to candidate web pages.

A two-page backgrounder on NOW PACs covers their unique strategies, successes -- even in a year like 1994 -- and rigorous endorsement criteria. It distinguishes between the PAC designed to elect more feminists to Congress, and another designed to fill up the political pipeline at all levels.

The web site includes multimedia clips from a 1996 elections video entitled, "Get Angry, Get Active, Get Results!" The clips show highlights of feminist political organizing in the 1990s -- including the huge 1992 abortion rights march, the so-called Year of the Woman later that same year and protests in response to the Dole-Gingrich Congress.

The site -- http://www.now.org/pac/1996/ -- is a work in progress that will be updated as more information becomes available.
