Patricia Ireland is one of the most influential feminist leaders in the U.S. Since assuming the presidency of the National Organization for Women in December 1991, she has used her varied experiences as a stewardess, corporate lawyer and groundbreaking activist to move NOW to the forefront of the political scene. With 280,000 members, NOW is widely recognized as a key player in efforts to improve social and economic conditions for women in this country and throughout the world.

Recently returned from both the Democratic and Republican conventions, Ireland is at the beginning of a coast-to-coast speaking tour leading up to the Nov. 5 elections. Ireland will join NOW activists across the country in grassroots organizing campaigns in key states such as California, Georgia, North Carolina and New Hampshire.

Her book, "What Women Want" (Dutton, June 1996), offers a timely and intimate look at the inside of the women's movement. As NOW celebrates its 30th anniversary, Ireland describes her own path to power, the struggle for feminist progress and her vision for the future.

Ireland will be the keynote speaker at the Texas NOW State Convention at noon on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Holiday Inn Northwest Plaza, 8901 Business Park Drive, in Austin.
