NOW and CODEPINK Work to End Violence in the Middle East at Camp Democracy's Women for Peace Day
September 19, 2006
On Sept. 20 the National Organization for Women and CODEPINK will cosponsor Women for Peace Day at Camp Democracy. NOW President Kim Gandy and Medea Benjamin, cofounder of CODEPINK, will kick off the day with speeches at 9:30 am. Throughout the rest of the day, there will be a variety of workshops and discussions concentrating on ending the violence in the Middle East. At 6:00 pm, Camp Democracy will march to the E Street Theater for the premiere of the documentary The U.S. vs. John Lennon.
"The violence in Iraq has already cost too many lives," said NOW President Kim Gandy. "Service members and civilians are dying every day in a conflict initiated by George W. Bush. Women must now come together and work toward ending the violence -- a goal that the U.S. government seems incapable of accomplishing."
