NOW Announces National Day of Action Against Wal-Mart September 25, 2002 "Activists across the country are banding together to participate in a National Day of Action Against Wal-Mart, the nation's largest and most sued retailer," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "NOW has named Wal-Mart its fifth Merchant of Shame, a title reserved for corporations with the most deplorable records on workplace abuses. The National Day of Action Against Wal-Mart is a coordinated effort with NOW chapters across the country to shine a spotlight on the company's position as a leader in on-the-job offenses." On the National Day of Action Against Wal-Mart, activists in more than 20 cities will protest at stores in their area. Kim Gandy will be joined by AFL-CIO President John Sweeney at the action at a Wal-Mart location in Alexandria, Virginia.
