NOW President Kim Gandy to Speak at "March to Justice" Rally, Feminists Link Arms With Civil Rights Allies September 12, 2002 "Since September 11 last year, George W. Bush and John Ashcroft have used the so-called war on terrorism as an excuse for policies that trample civil liberties," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "But it's inexcusable. The U.S. Department of Justice is morphing into a Ministry of Injustice where civil liberties and rights have become negotiable." Gandy will march with leaders and activists from NOW and other civil rights groups in the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition's March to Justice on Friday, September 13. Gandy will also speak about the Attorney General's impact on women's rights at the rally after activists make their demands heard at the Department of Justice (DOJ). WHAT: March to Justice WHEN: Friday, September 13 WHERE: March: Freedom Plaza (14th and Penn. Ave, NW) to the DOJ "Just two days after the first anniversary of September 11, activists and other concerned people from diverse backgrounds will join forces to make their demands for protection of civil rights and civil liberties heard," Gandy said. "Without protections and rights for all people, then we lose our democracy and terrorism wins. " ### For Immediate ReleaseContact: Mai Shiozaki, 202-628-8669, ext. 116; cell 202-641-1906 |
