"Just three weeks before the November election, tens of thousands of activists will gather in Washington, D.C. to demand an end to poverty and violence against women and to call for equality between women and men," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Patricia Ireland.
Ireland will speak to activists at Barnard College on Monday, October 2 on the role that the World March of Women 2000 and the issues it addresses, will have on the November elections. Hundreds of New York City activists plan to attend the march and bring the issues, enthusiasm and energy from the march back with them to their communities.
"Women in 157 countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, are organizing the first-ever series of coordinated actions for women's rights," Ireland said. "This feminist energy will spill over to all the institutions that shape our world and to the U.S. polls in November. With so much at stake, we cannot afford to fail in our campaign to change the face of politics in this country and around the globe."
