CHICAGO -- FIGHT THE RIGHT RALLY

"Women's Issues Are Everyone's Issues" is the message NOW activists and allies will send to conservative elements in both major political parties; speakers will convey what women voters expect and demand in this election year.


SUN., 8/18, 5:15 p.m., RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL NEW YORK -- CRASHING THE PRESIDENT'S BIRTHDAY BASH

NOW and other advocates for the poor will protest the president's plan to sign the welfare repeal bill through demonstrations at his celebrity birthday party and at other cities downlink sites including Boston, Chicago and Washington.


WEEK OF 8/19, TBA -- either 12 noon or 5:30 p.m., WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON -- DEMONSTRATION OVER WELFARE BILL

Activists (some in DAY 15 of a fast) will praise or protest President Clinton's action on a welfare bill that plunges millions more people into poverty and omits minimal protections for women facing domestic violence that passed both the House and Senate.


THURS., AUG. 29, CHICAGO CONVENTION -- FRANK TALK, CLINIC DEFENSE PLANNED

High profile feminist leaders, including NOW President Patricia Ireland and Eleanor Smeal of the Feminist Majority, will be on hand to defend area abortion clinics in Joe Scheidler's backyard and to remind Democrats that they can't run roughshod over the poor and count on women's votes.
