FASTING ACTIVISTS PLAN INTENSE RESPONSE WHEN CLINTON SIGNS OR VETOES WELFARE REPEAL
Activists are planning additional actions in response to President Clinton's signing or veto of the punitive welfare bill that will thrust millions of poor people deeper into poverty:
More than 75 activists joined in Monday night's candlelight vigil, and hundreds of individuals joined a demonstration last Thursday.
Groups participating in the ongoing protests include: NOW, the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Feminist Majority, the National Welfare Rights Union, the National Rainbow Coalition, the National Union of the Homeless, the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the Human Rights Campaign, the Gray Panthers, the Mexican American Women's National Association, the United Methodist Church, the National Council of Jewish Women, Network -- the National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, the Older Women's League and Ralph Nader's Center for the Study of Responsive Law.
