WHERE : Hyatt Regency-Columbus, conference headquarters. The march will step off at the Hyatt Regency at 1:15 p.m. Saturday and travel down North High Street to the Ohio Statehouse, where the rally takes place. "Just last week, a Cincinnati judge sentenced a man to marry the woman he pleaded no contest to beating," said NOW President Patricia Ireland. "And this week, the House Appropriations Committee will decide whether to follow subcommittee plans that would all but eliminate domestic violence programs to educate judges like Cincinnati's Judge Albert Mestemaker. Incredibly, millions of dollars in funding would be wiped out for domestic violence assistance and education programs under the Violence Against Women Act passed just last year.
"These are dangerous times. We're using this conference, march and rally to organize our forces to counter the increasing attacks against women at abortion clinics, in our homes, courts, schools, statehouses and on Capitol Hill." Press credentials/information can be obtained at NOW headquarters through July 18, or at the Grant/Harding Press Rooms, the Hyatt Regency-Columbus (614)463-1234, beginning July 20.
