"With two branches of government aligned against women's rights, and the Supreme Court precariously balanced, feminist activists are hard at work to change the faces of our opponents in the White House and Congress," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "The 2003 National NOW Conference will bring NOW leaders and activists from across the country face to face with presidential candidates and members of Congress to discuss the future of women's rights at this crucial political juncture. The conference will also launch NOW's newest campaign to preserve women's rights through a grassroots mobilization of feminist voters."

"NOW is bringing its annual conference back to the nation's capital for the first time in 20 years--and will host some of the country's leading political figures as we discuss women's involvement in the 2004 elections," Gandy said. The Conference will host a Meet the Presidential Candidates forum, featuring political comedian Elayne Boosler, and other speakers will include author/activist Rebecca Walker, U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif) and D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton. U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif) will be presented with NOW's Woman of Courage Award.

"The Conference will also feature workshops on hard-hitting issues, action planning and a five-session Political Institute on recruiting, campaigning for and electing feminists to public office," Gandy said. "Activists will go home with skills and determination to change the face of politics in 2004."
