WHEN: Wednesday, June 5, at 12 noon, with a news conference at
1:30 p.m.
WHERE: at Operation PUSH headquarters, 930 East 50th St., Chicago
WHY: to discuss the EEOC's sexual harassment suit, Mitsubishi's
response and NOW's informational
pickets at Mitsubishi and Chrysler dealerships.
"We want a meeting with Mitsubishi's top brass, but it doesn't mean
we're calling off our informational pickets," Ireland said. "Positive actions
speaker louder than words."
When Ireland and Jackson toured the Normal plant two weeks ago,
employees told them that not only are sexual and racial harassment continuing
problems there, so is fear of retribution against complainants and co-workers
who defend them.
"Employees themselves are asking us to keep up the public pressure
until management takes positive steps to resolve the EEOC suit and eliminate
ongoing harassment," Ireland said.
