NOW JOINS 1,000 IN PROTEST, LOBBY EFFORTS

TO STOP GOP WELFARE CUTS

WHO : NOW Vice President-Action, Rosemary Dempsey; John Dodds, director, Philadelphia Unemployment Project; Pat Reuss, NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund; Bob McAlpine, National Urban League; Lisa Diehl, Center for Economic Options; Father Peter Klink, Jesuit Social Ministries; Ellen Teller, Food Research and Action Center; Rabbi Daniel Swartz, Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism; Patrick Conover, United Church of Christ; and 1,000 low income people and advocates for the poor from Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina.

WHAT : Will participate in a protest, followed by a lobby effort in the U.S. Senate.

WHEN : TUESDAY, JUNE 6, 1995, AT 12 NOON.

WHERE : SENATE PARK, CORNER OF DELAWARE AND CONSTITUTION AVE., ACROSS FROM THE RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING.

WHY : To protest proposed GOP-designed cuts in welfare, including food stamps, day care, school lunches and job training programs, and to lobby all Senate members who will consider the GOP proposals.
