NOW to Announce Fifth "Merchant of Shame"

Protest at Local Site During National Conference

"NOW has identified a Fortune 100 company with a history of substantial charges of sex discrimination, pay inequity and other workplace abuses that are simply intolerable," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. On Saturday, June 22, the National Organization for Women will name its fifth Merchant of Shame. "This national corporation has an appalling track record of workplace abuses including sexual harassment, violence in the workplace and devastating wage inequities. Local workers and activists will also protest and distribute information at a local branch of the latest culprit."

The name of the company and details about the protest location will be released to the public at 9 AM on Saturday, June 22.

"NOW's Merchants of Shame are an important part of the Women-Friendly Workplace Campaign - a proactive project demanding equal rights for women on the job," Gandy said. "NOW spurred Smith Barney, Mitsubishi Motors and other leading corporations to work toward creating truly women and family friendly workplaces. We are confident that public pressure on the newest Merchant of Shame will force the company to make real changes."
