Feminists Applaud Capture of Anti-Abortion Terrorist Eric Rudolph

May 31, 2003

"Women's rights activists and abortion providers across the country are breathing a sigh of relief today with the capture of Eric Rudolph," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "Emily Lyons, a nurse at the Birmingham clinic Rudolph reportedly bombed, survived the attack but was permanently maimed. Doctors and staff at reproductive health clinics around the U.S. face fear of violence every day. With one less anti-abortion terrorist on the loose, we're all safer."

NOW has engaged in clinic defense and litigation since 1973 to stop threats and violence at women's health clinics. NOW's landmark lawsuit, NOW v. Scheidler, et al, which resulted in a nationwide injunction to prevent clinic violence, is still in litigation.
