"This event gives us the chance to celebrate the enormous political gains of lesbians and share a healthy dose of laughter - while raising money to elect feminists like Chris, Grethe and Tammy," said NOW President Patricia Ireland. Proceeds from the Party with a Purpose will benefit NOW's PACs and their work with feminist candidates.

1998 presents an historic electoral opportunity. For the first time, three open lesbians are running for Congress. All three women will receive NOW/PAC Woman of Power awards in recognition of their important contributions to electoral equality.

NOW PACs have launched the Victory 2000 campaign with the goal of electing 2000 feminists to all levels of political office by the year 2000. Many of the 650 feminists NOW PACs supported in their 1996 races are now in positions of power across the country and are positioned to move up the political pipeline to higher office.
