NOW to Celebrate International Women's Day with a Rally for Peace March 7, 2003 "On International Women's Day, NOW stands with millions of women around the world who want peace, and many thousands of them will be joining us tomorrow in a rally and march to the White House," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "This war would have a disproportionate impact on women and girls in Iraq as well as in the U.S." NOW is co-sponsoring the peace rally and march organized by Code Pink: Women for Peace. Gandy will speak at the rally, joining other notable peace advocates and human rights activists including Alice Walker, Cheri Honkala, Helen Caldicott, Medea Benjamin and Maxine Hong Kingston. When: Saturday, March 8 Where: Malcolm X Park, 16th Street, NW "NOW is proud to stand with the other social justice advocates who have united to form this peace vigil," Gandy said. "We encourage the U.S. government to cooperate with our international partners in resolving conflict around the world. Only through the promotion of peace, equality and self-sufficiency can we truly end terrorism. NOW demands that the Bush administration help create true security in the U.S. and abroad, not simply further the cycle of violence." ### For Immediate ReleaseContact: Mai Shiozaki, 202-628-8669, ext. 116; cell 202-641-1906 |
