NOW AND LOCAL STUDENTS ORGANIZE TO STOP THE POLITICS OF HATE

February 9, 1996

One of four top NOW leaders, Action Vice President Rosemary Dempsey will give a speech to local students entitled "Stopping the Politics of Hate: Exposing the Radical Right," that exposes the agenda of the radical right and presents grassroots organizing skills for opposing this agenda. Dempsey and NOW Organizer Kimberlee Ward will also conduct a workshop with students designed to build coalitions, cultivate the power of student activism and mobilize student support for NOW's April 14 Fight the Right March in San Francisco.

"We refuse to sit back and watch as the radical right turns their divisive rhetoric into state and national policy," said Rosemary Dempsey, Vice President-Action for NOW. "We must stop ballot measures attacking affirmative action and lesbian and gay rights. We must stop legislative threats to poor women's basic survival, funding for domestic violence, civil rights and reproductive rights."
