Feminist Explores Presidential Race, NOW Applauds Moseley-Braun Announcement February 19, 2003 "Feminists are delighted that Carol Moseley-Braun is exploring a presidential run in 2004. A woman's place is definitely in the White House," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "Moseley-Braun is a long-time women's rights supporter with a record to back up her rhetoric." Former Ambassador to New Zealand, Moseley-Braun was the first-ever—and to date, only—African American woman in the U.S. Senate. "She is pioneering again as the only woman considering the 2004 race for the White House," Gandy said. "She would be the first African American woman to make a presidential bid since Shirley Chisholm in 1972." "Moseley-Braun's political power and potential are significant," Gandy said. "With Carol at the table, women's issues will be central in the shaping the debate." ### For Immediate ReleaseContact: Mai Shiozaki, 202-628-8669, ext. 116; cell 202-641-1906 |
