NOW PRESIDENT PATRICIA IRELAND SPEAKS ON FEMINISM NOW AND IN THE FUTURE AT AUGUSTANA COLLEGE

FEBRUARY 8, 2000

National Organization for Women (NOW) President Patricia Ireland will speak to students at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.  Ireland will discuss progress toward equality for women, the future of feminism in the 21st Century and, more immediately, women's role in this year's elections.

"Progress for women is not equality and it's not irreversible," Ireland said.  "Women's rights are threatened in state legislatures, in Congress and at the Supreme Court.  But we have tremendous power as voters, and as members of our families and communities."

WHO:  NOW President Patricia Ireland

WHEN: 10:30 AM Thursday, February 10

WHERE: Centennial Hall, 38th Street & Seventh Avenue Augustana College, Rock Island, IL

WHAT: Speech, "Feminism 2000 and Beyond"

"Women elected the last president, and we will elect his successor.  We are taking this same influence to the media and to big business," Ireland said.  "Women will put their votes, dollars and consumer power toward improving our lives and creating a feminist future."
