WHY: To kick off NOW's political organizing in California that will lead up to a major Fight the Right March in San Francisco April 14.
The Fight the Right March is a key component of NOW's 1996 Equality Countdown Campaign, which aims to put feminist issues on the front burner, elect feminist candidates and defeat California's anti-affirmative action ballot measure.
"This country will not stand idle while Newt Gingrich, Pete Wilson and company rescind our rights to equality, information and choice," said NOW President Patricia Ireland. "We will raise our voice in California in April, at the conventions this summer and at the polls in November. We will raise our voices until our politicians listen."
Patricia Ireland will also be available for comment in San Francisco Friday, January 19 from 2-4 p.m., and while in Berkeley, Calif. Sunday, January 21, for a Roe v. Wade anniversary event.
