WHAT: Will hold protests during the National Affairs Briefing, a forum with Republican presidential candidates that is hosted by groups such as the Christian Coalition and National Right to Life Committee.

WHY: To send a message to any presidential candidates who pander
to the religious right's morally wrong agenda, with its policies that attack
women,labor, the environment, affirmative action and lesbian and gay rights.
"Everywhere from Memphis to San Francisco, the Supreme Court to local
courthouses, our activists are speaking out to make it clear that Ralph
Reed and his cronies are not speaking for most voters," said NOW President
Patricia Ireland.

NOW's organizing for the Memphis events is part of its 1996 Equality Countdown Campaign, which aims to put feminist issues on the front burner, elect feminist candidates and defeat ballot measures hostile to women's rights. A major highlight of the campaign is a Fight the Right March set for April 14 in San Francisco.
