NOW Congratulates Former President Kim Gandy on new VP Post at Feminist Majority

The National Organization for Women congratulates former NOW president Kim Gandy on her new position as vice president and general counsel at the Feminist Majority and the Feminist Majority Foundation. Gandy served in national NOW office for 22 years, including two terms as the organization's president, ending in July 2009. She recently completed a resident fellowship at the Harvard Institute of Politics, where she taught a series of seminars on "Winning Across Progressive Movements."

"The Feminist Majority would be hard-pressed to find a more experienced and committed feminist leader than Kim Gandy," said NOW President Terry O'Neill. "Her passion for social justice, combined with her political insight and legal background, make her a perfect choice for this post."

Founded in 1987 by another former NOW president, Eleanor Smeal, the Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), is dedicated to women's equality, reproductive health and non-violence. FMF is known for its campaign for Afghan women and girls, its campus leadership program and its work to make mifepristone (RU-486) available to U.S. women. Gandy will lend her considerable knowledge and skills to FMF's clinic defense project and its work on the Violence Against Women Act, among other critical charges.

"Kim's return to feminist leadership merits an enthusiastic welcome," said O'Neill. "Her contributions to the movement over the past 36 years have been significant. Women and girls stand to benefit greatly from Kim's sustained efforts to end sex discrimination and advance justice for all. We wish her all the best in her new position."
