NOW President and D.C. Activists to Honor Roe v. Wade Anniversary at Supreme Court by Calling for Reproductive Freedom for All

January 16, 2004

"Reproductive freedom is under attack like never before. George W. Bush and the right wing led Congress are literally signing away women's reproductive rights," said NOW President Kim Gandy. "On this year's Roe v. Wade anniversary, NOW activists will gather at the Supreme Court to tell the leaders of this country that we are prepared to protect our right to abortion, birth control and all reproductive health services, as well as our right to have children and plan our own families without government interference."

NOW chapters across the country are holding vigils and other events on the Jan. 22 anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that declared abortion legal in the United States.

What:   Roe v. Wade Anniversary Candlelight Vigil

Who:   Capital City NOW leaders and activists, National NOW President Kim Gandy

When:   Thursday, January 22, 6:00 PM

Where:   U.S. Supreme Court (First Street and Maryland Avenue, NE)

"It's hard for many of us to imagine—but Roe v. Wade is indeed in danger of reversal. And reproductive freedom for all women is still just a dream," said Gandy. "That is why we must stand together to protect and expand the rights of every woman."
