NOW President to Speak Out for Abortion Rights at U.S. Supreme Court Vigil January 17, 2002
"Bush's anti-abortion agenda could completely tip the scales of justice against women's rights," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "We aren't going to allow that to happen, and we're not going to stop organizing until abortion is safe, legal and accessible for every woman in the U.S." NOW activists across the country are organizing speak-outs and other events to commemorate Roe v. Wade. Gandy will speak at a vigil in front of the U.S. Supreme Court to celebrate the anniversary of legal abortion in this country.
What: Roe v. Wade Vigil
When: Tuesday, January 22, 6 PM
Where: U.S. Supreme Court (First Street and Maryland Avenue, NE)
"The President and the Congress will soon get the message that they have more to fear from the women's vote than they do from the right wing," Gandy said. "NOW's Roe v. Wade events are a launch pad for a campaign to save the federal courts as a means of protecting and advancing our rights."
