"Women need the right to choose birth control and abortion, but we also
need the right
realistically to have and raise our children. That means we need access
to good jobs, equal pay
and affirmative action, and freedom from harassment, discrimination,
hate crimes and other
violence," said National Organization
for Women (NOW) President Patricia
Ireland.
"Confirmation of John Ashcroft and Tommy Thompson
would mean these dreams would be put
on hold," Ireland said. "Senators who vote to confirm these radical-right
poster boys will be in
for a rude awakening in the 2002 elections."
