NOW Activists Rally at the U.S. Supreme Court to Stop Violence Against Women

January 6, 2000

National Organization for Women (NOW) President Patricia Ireland will lead a rally in front of the U.S. Supreme Court to protest violence against women.  Activists will gather at 9:30 AM on January 11, 2000 -- immediately prior to oral arguments in Brzonkala v. Morrison.

"The U.S. Supreme Court will decide if women who face gender-based violence will continue to have the right to bring a civil suit in federal court under the 1994 Violence Against Women Act," Ireland said.  "The Brzonkala case is not about states' rights; it's about women's rights."

WHAT:    NOW Rally to Stop Violence Against Women

WHEN:    9:30 AM on Tuesday, January 11, 2000

WHERE:    U.S. Supreme Court (First Street & Maryland avenue, N.E.)

Ireland will be on the Court's plaza and available for comment immediately following the arguments.
