NOW National Conference: 2006

Submit a NOW Conference Workshop Proposal

Albany, New York July 21-23

The deadline for submission is April 15, 2006

NOW invites all interested persons to submit a workshop proposal for the 2006 National Conference celebrating our 40th anniversary and including a Young Feminist Summit. We will be gathering in Albany, New York at the Crowne Plaza Albany Hotel, July 21-23, 2006.

The Young Feminist Summit will be on Friday, July 21 and all workshop sessions on that day will be related to the summit. Separate proposals must be submitted for the Young Feminist summit.

Because this conference will be jam-packed with the Summit, the political institute and celebration of NOW's four decades, the number of rooms and times available for workshops is severely limited.

All of the NOW conference workshops will all be on Saturday July 22, 2006, so you need to make sure that both you and your workshop presenters are available on that Saturday before you submit a proposal.

We are asking for applications that fit within the parameters of NOW's Key Issues and core principles and that have a direct relation to current events and national issue politics.

If you would like to organize and present a workshop, please fill out the proposal form. We encourage you to assemble a panel that reflects regional, age, racial, ability and sexual identity diversity. If you are applying only for yourself, we may include you as a panelist in another topic-related workshop. Note: Due to the popularity of some topics and limitations of space, workshop proposals will be combined with other proposals on the same topic. Please remember that NOW is not able to pay travel or other workshop expenses for workshop presenters.

Proposals will be reviewed and accepted on issues that are timely, inclusive and directly related to NOW's feminist principles. Panelists and topics should reflect diverse populations and perspectives and each workshop should incorporate the following components if applicable:

A. The nuts and bolts of the issue/topic from a feminist perspective - with a focus on current policy discussions and with an element of skill building as part of the discussion.

B. Suggested action items such as drafting new policy initiatives, working to pass legislation, using an issue to mobilize voters, mounting a public education campaign, to name a few.

C. Time for audience questions and participation.

D. Issue-based fact sheets and/or suggestions for actions (minimum of 30 copies).
