SONiA

SONiA
SONiA
SONiA is an award-winning songwriter from Baltimore, Md, who has gained a devoted fan base in countries around the world. Her powerful honesty touches the hearts and minds of people of all social and ethnic backgrounds, underpinned as they are by the simple belief that people are people and love is love. In the late 1980s, sisters SONiA and Cindy began a musical partnership called disappear fear, an acoustic folk-pop group. They created disappear records, toured America, signed a publishing deal with Carlin Music and released three of their own CDs before signing with Philo/Rounder Records in 1994. After releasing two more albums, Cindy chose full-time motherhood while SONiA began to experiment with an expanded palette of musical influences, including blues and country music. SONiA has won numerous awards including the GLAMA for Best Female Artist of the Year in 1999, and Best Acoustic Album for Me, Too in 2001. Her first live solo album, SONiA: LiVE at the Down Home, received a glowing review in Billboard Magazine upon its release in 2001. In 2002, the Santa Cruz Guitar Company created the SONiA model in her honor. SONiA's ninth CD, No Bomb is Smart, was released in April 2004.

Cris Williamson

Cris Williamson
Cris Williamson
Cris Williamson is a legendary singer, songwriter and activist who has toured the world for the last 30 years. She is one of a handful of artists credited with creating the women's music genre. She helped set the stage for women—particularly for lesbians—to write, produce, record and issue their own material, on their own terms. Trained as a teacher, Williamson came into prominence in the 1970s with the release of her historic album, The Changer and the Changed. She now has some 17 albums to her credit, including her Parents' Choice award-winning musical narrative, Lumiere, an anthem of hope in a harsh world. She has appeared on a multitude of benefit records; her lyrics appear on a regular basis in books and thesis papers; and her albums are part of the curriculum for women studies courses. Williamson's music has stirred souls and opened minds. The erstwhile teacher has stayed true to her first chosen vocation. Concert appearances are frequently peppered with the "psalm according to Williamson," homilies that emphasize compassion and connection and underscore her contributions, musically and personally, to making the world a better place for all.
