It's been an impressive year for NOW's tax-deductible sister organization, NOW Foundation, and 2007 brings even more opportunities. In carrying out our ongoing commitment to further women's rights through education, training, advocacy, voter empowerment and leadership development, the NOW Foundation completed its 20th year with an enviable list of accomplishments.

Reflecting on these successes, NOW Foundation President Kim Gandy said, "There is tremendous hope for the future of women's rights, but our movement must be vigilant and prepared to meet today's challenges and the ones just around the corner."

Aimed at improving and protecting women's lives, the year's work ranged from voter education around the mid-term elections to continuing our efforts to protect women's health and rights. While the FDA continued to put corporate interests ahead of women's health, and right-wing leaders continued to propose and impose policies that violate our fundamental rights, the NOW Foundation persevered in efforts to counter, expose and stop these dangerous trends.

Our Love Your Body campaign continues to grow, with activities in schools and cities across the country informing and educating young women about body image and the dangers of responding to the unhealthy and unrealistic images they see in advertising and media. In key battles over government decisions that impact women's health choices, like access to emergency contraception and the approval of dangerous silicone gel breast implants, NOW Foundation played a key role in educating policymakers and activists, testifying and submitting comments, informing the media, and advocating for women.

During the November elections, the NOW Foundation was essential in informing women voters on what was stake in several ballot measures, including an anti-affirmative action initiatives and the most severe restrictions to abortion access. Our tireless voter registration and empowerment efforts no doubt contributed to more women voting — and we know that women's votes are responsible for the elevation of the first woman Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and self-proclaimed feminist: Nancy Pelosi.
