Internet Communications Coordinator

The Internet Communications Coordinator is responsible for the content of NOW's Internet-based communications (web sites and emails); reports to the Director of Communications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Post content on NOW's web sites; keep content organized and easy to find
  • Function as NOW's Internet gatekeeper: coordinate content editing process; ensure that all content has been approved prior to posting; perform final review/copy edit
  • Write and edit web stories, legislative alerts and other internet/email content
  • Design web graphics; lay out email newsletters, alerts and other messages
  • Send NOW's action alerts, News & Action Summary and other emails
  • Regularly monitor web sites and revise outdated pages/content
  • Suggest ideas for improving and promoting NOW's online presence, driving traffic to NOW web sites and building subscriber email lists
  • Keep abreast of NOW's issues and suggest web content, emails and creative strategies for promoting these issues
  • Assist chapter leaders with their own web sites and email lists
  • Serve an integral part of the communications team and office; pitch in where needed

We need someone who:

  • Can adapt and learn quickly, particularly new software/technology
  • Is extremely organized and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Is flexible and willing to work occasional nights and weekends when necessary
  • Is detail-oriented and takes pride in producing high-quality work
  • Can work with multiple departments and a wide variety of personalities
  • Is dependable, responsible, and committed to getting the job done right and on time
  • Is self-motivated, takes initiative, and is adept at problem-solving
  • Is accustomed to keeping thorough documentation of work, tracking status of various projects
  • Has a strong commitment to the mission of NOW

Knowledge and skills needed:

  • Coding and posting web pages (preferably experience in Dreamweaver, FTP)
  • Writing and editing web-based content (preferably on social justice issues and/or public policy)
  • Editing photos and graphics (preferably experience in Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Laying out and sending email newsletters (preferably experience in Lyris)
  • Working with online advocacy tools (preferably experience with Capwiz)
  • Shepherding content through an approval process
  • Working or volunteering with a progressive advocacy organization

Knowledge of NOW's structure and involvement in feminist issues a real plus.

Salary and benefits:

Salary based on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits include fully-paid family health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and after one year of employment, a 401(k) plan with employer contributions.

Location: National NOW Action Center, 1100 H Street NW, 3rd Floor, Washington, D.C. (one block from Metro Center).

Accountant

The National Organization for Women is seeking a qualified Accountant. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in general accounting work, including bank reconciliations, G/L management and monthly financial reporting. Field Organizer

Join the National Organization for Women and Help Build the Movement

NOW, the largest grassroots feminist organization in the country is hiring a field and chapter development organizer to work within a chapter-based network of activists across the country to achieve feminist social change goals. You must be knowledgeable and interested in a range of issues including ending violence and racism, reproductive and economic justice, LGBTQI, and electing feminists to office.

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of activist recruitment strategies within diverse communities, you must enjoy traveling and have excellent communication skills. Ability to make public presentations, access and use technology, conflict resolution skills and experience working with diverse populations are essential.

Qualifications include:

  • 3 years full-time experience community/grassroots organizing for women's rights and social justice - membership organizations preferred.
  • Cultural competency skills working with diverse groups of women: multiracial, multicultural, intergenerational, disability, and sexuality.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Experience working to recruit, retain, and grow members, networks, and collaborations.
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally and work some nights and weekends (50% of the time).
  • Bi-lingual speaking skills/Spanish a plus.
