Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the First Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls

New York July 16 - 19, 1998

In 1848, the first Women's Rights Convention in this country was held in Seneca Falls, NY. Over 300 people attended; 100 of the participants signed a Declaration of Sentiments which called for women's political, social and economic empowerment; and it was a driving force behind the suffrage movement. One hundred fifty years later, NOW has called for another Women's Rights Convention in New York. A new document will be created which will guide our movement into the 21st century.

We welcome and encourage all feminists to attend. We need your ideas and insights as we create a new declaration of our hopes and dreams. We need our movement's rich diversity--racial and ethnic, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, economic circumstance, life experience, education level--to express a shared vision for women in the new millennium that will continue to inspire us and keep our movement strong. With your support, this convention and summit will have as significant and galvanizing effect as the one in 1848.
