The painting "Phenomenal Women," by African-American artist Margaret Warfield, will be featured on the awards given to honorees at the 2006 Intrepid Awards Gala. |
Mark your calendars now! NOW and the NOW Foundation's fourth annual Intrepid Awards gala is coming up on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006. This year's event, once again emceed by award-winning news anchor Maureen Bunyan, will be held in the beautiful East Hall of Union Station in Washington, D.C. The gala will honor four extraordinary women whose lives epitomize the dictionary definition of the word "intrepid"—resolutely courageous, fearless and bold. Past Intrepid Awards recipients have included journalist Helen Thomas, astronaut Mae Jemison, "Vagina Monologues" playwright Eve Ensler, comedian Margaret Cho, labor leader Dolores Huerta, singer/composer and activist Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, and primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall.
Of course, there are thousands of intrepid women all across the world who may not be quite as well known as our honorees but who are equally as inspirational to those who know them. As part of this year's gala celebration, you will be able to recognize those intrepid women who have made a difference in your life by submitting their names for inclusion in a special edition 40th anniversary gala program book. For more information on how to participate, go to www.now.org/gala.
