The National NOW Times wants to know about your chapter actions.  It is important that we get the word out about the vast number and diversity of demonstrations, vigils, campaigns, fundraisers, educational programs and other events that NOW activists organize every day.

If you send us photos and a description of your action, we may be able to highlight it in the NOW Acts column, or we may mention it in an article on a related issue.  And your dedicated activists might get to see their pictures in the paper!  But we can't do this without your submissions.

While the NOW Times would love to highlight every action you tell us about, this will not always be practical.  We will try to report as diverse a selection of chapter actions as possible and we regret any omissions that occur.

Guidelines for submissions are as follows:

You can write the story yourself (about 3 paragraphs -- keep it to the who, what, when, where, why -- the why can best be covered with a direct quote from a chapter leader.)

Direct quotes from your press statements, speeches or hand-outs are good too.

Please send your submission as SOON after the event as possible!

You can send any press coverage (noting any errors) or press releases about the action and the NOW Action Center staff will write it. Please note that newspaper articles do not fax well. Unless the information is only used for a picture caption, we do need enough information to write three paragraphs. A direct quote from a chapter officer makes the story more interesting and gives the opportunity for stating opinions.

We also love PICTURES of actions -- the best pictures are of people picketing, rather than of just one person at a podium. Please indicate the name of the photographer. Note: For credit to occur, the name MUST be on the BACK of the photo., and identify anyone in the picture that you can. We prefer pictures that are taken by activists to avoid reprint costs, but we possibly can get permission to print a picture that appeared in your local paper, depending on cost. Send us the picture with the newspaper's name, city and date of publication, with page number.

Notes on picture quality: Whenever possible it is good for us to have a hard copy of the picture. Our NNT editor can scan these to what is needed for print. If you wish to submit an electronic copy of a photo and have scanning capability, please scan it at 600dpi or greater. We want to be able to see everyone's faces and read all of the signs!

NOW reserves the right to crop any photo.  This may be necessary for space reasons, particularly in print.

Please do NOT send NEGATIVES.  Please do NOT send your ONLY COPIES.  We cannot guarantee that photos will be returned, but we will make every effort if you clearly request their return.

It is a big boost for many chapters when activists see the action they worked on in the NOW Times, so please send us the info. If you are a state president, please forward this message to chapter activists in your state. Please encourage activists to routinely send in materials as immediate follow-up on any action (so it's not too old to use), to always take a camera to an action, and to send us press clippings (even if they don't think it's appropriate for the NNT -- our press department wants to track whenever and wherever NOW gets press).
