Read More...In its opening comments the NOW Foundation argued that the public interest is best served by maintaining or tightening the existing broadcast ownership rules. These reply comments were filed in response to industry commenters who support relaxing media ownership limits because they claim government regulation is unnecessary in this age of expanding new media. We argue that even though there may be diversity of opinion available on the internet, many people are unable to access, use or afford the new media. Additionally we argue that preserving ownership limits is in the public interest because such limits promote the public's first amendment right to diverse sources of news and information on the public airwaves.
