A Note from NOW President Kim Gandy

Greetings from the NOW National Action Center!

This week, we introduce a new feature, the "Note from the President." I look forward to the opportunity to update you on what we're up to here at the NOW Action Center in Washington, D.C.

Last week I traveled to Boston with the leaders of the four groups co-sponsoring next year's Save Women's Lives: March for Freedom of Choice. We spoke with students and activists on several campuses and on Harvard Square. They've already started to organize delegations and charter buses to transport the hundreds of thousands of marchers we expect next April 25. Over the next six months, we'll need every NOW supporter to commit to come and bring your friends to march for reproductive rights this historic day. This weekend, on the anniversary of the Patriot Act, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco will host giant anti-war protests, the first since Bush officially "ended" the conflict in Iraq. Since Bush took office, the national deficit has grown to over $370 billion and we've lost over 2.7 million jobs. As we try to make sense of the violence and economic turbulence facing us here and all over the world, and counter the attacks of those who are determined to undermine our civil rights and have giant war chests to carry out their mission, it's important to take time to reflect on our own important goals and the importance of our mission: equality and justice for all! Why, when it sounds so simple, is it taking so long to achieve?

I hope to use this space to reflect on our victories and the challenges ahead of us. Thanks for being with us in this important and lifelong struggle.
