Love Your Breasts, Love Your Body
Boobs. Jugs. Titties. Tatas. The girls. No matter what cutesy name you give them, breasts are a part of practical, everyday life. From Hollywood to D.C., I promise you that all breasts are created equal.
For whatever reason, society classifies breasts as a sexual body part. In media especially, censorship plays a significant role when it comes to excluding a woman's chest out of pop-culture. Remembering Janet Jackson's slip during the Super bowl … what an outrage! Did her body really do that?! Additionally, fearful of F.C.C. violations, many channels blur out Rose's breasts while screening the Titanic.
Censoring "tits" has gone so far, that in fact, one Elementary School's autocorrect eliminated words such as "boobs" and "tits" and corrected it into "breast." Although it may be more politically correct, it actually turned our very own "ConsTITution" into "ConBREASTution." Maybe it's not so politically correct after all.
Furthermore, epitomizing the patriarchal society we all call home: a few years ago, a woman was kicked off a plane for breastfeeding her baby. It is peculiar to witness people stopping a normal part of human life all because a woman has breasts. I am genuinely ashamed.
Whilst many more slips may follow, we mustn't forget those who have lost one of their girls along the way.
My Aunt - one of the bravest women I know - lost one of her girls to a difficult battle of cancer. As a 2010 survivor, she now, single-breastedly wears her one breast proudly.
I'm not a believer of the "one breast is smaller than the other" statement; only because I firmly believe this is a "cup is half full" situation (excuse the pun). I, myself, have one breast slightly larger than the other, but I love both none-the-less, after all, all chests are created equal.
Ladies, now is the time to love our bodies, and more importantly, our breasts. With one breast or two, I urge you to wear yours proudly, not solely on Love Your Body Day, but everyday.
