ANTI-ABORTION TERRORIST SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON; CLINIC THREATS CONTINUE

James Kopp, an anti-choice extremist who murdered abortion provider Dr. Barnett Slepian in 1998, was sentenced to life in prison last week. Convicted of murder by a state court in 2003, Kopp's fate was sealed when a federal judge gave him a life term for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. Although this marks the end of an especially violent period of anti-abortion demonstration, abortion opponents continue to try to close these clinics, including this summer's planned seige of the Birmingham clinic. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" undermines the dignity, privacy, and integrity of service members by requiring them to hide or lie about their sexual orientation. A new bill would repeal this policy.
