ON TITLE IX ANNIVERSARY, MICHIGAN POISED TO SEGREGATE SCHOOLS The Michigan State Senate voted on a bill last week, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of Title IX, that would amend the 1976 Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to permit single-sex public schools, classes or programs in Michigan. This week, the House passed three similar bills, moving the state ever closer to allowing sex-segregated schools.
