NOW HOSTS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES' FORUM ON WOMEN'S RIGHTS

Democratic presidential candidates Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun and Gov. Howard Dean addressed a standing-room only crowd at the 2003 National NOW Conference in Arlington, Va. on July 11.At the 2003 National NOW Conference last week, an audience of about 1,000 women's rights supporters heard presidential candidates Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun, Gov. Howard Dean, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, and Rev. Al Sharpton make commitments to honor women's rights and promote economic justice for women and their families. Read more.


FEMINISTS CELEBRATE TITLE IX VICTORY

Faced with widespread support for Title IX, the Bush administration announced last week that there will be no changes to the landmark law that bans sex discrimination at federally-funded schools. Read more.


HOUSE APPROVES FOREIGN AID BILL WITHOUT FAMILY PLANNING FUNDS

In a 216-211 vote, the House stopped an amendment that would have restored funding to the U.N. Populations Fund, which provides voluntary family planning services around the world. Read more.

NOW and the NOW Foundation presented the first-ever Intrepid Awards to Helen Thomas, Margaret Cho, Rebecca Walker and Dr. Mae Jemison on July 10 in Washington D.C. Each of the award recipients embody the definition of "intrepid"—resolutely courageous, fearless and bold.
