Save Women's Lives: March for Freedom of Choice

You asked for a March -- you've got it! Put that date in your calendar and plan now to get to Washington, DC on April 25. And send this notice to your whole email list!

We are excited to tell you that the National Organization for Women and our sister organizations the Feminist Majority, NARAL/Pro-Choice America and Planned Parenthood, are organizing a massive march of abortion rights activists and supporters in Washington, D.C. on April 25th, 2004. This will be an historic action to send a message that women will not go back to the days of back-alley abortions.

In 1992, NOW organized the March for Women's Lives and 750,000 people poured into the streets of Washington, DC to protect abortion rights. Today even more is at stake -- birth control, emergency contraception, international family planning, and even scientific research.

This march and rally will be even bigger, and will deliver a critical message that we will not allow our rights to safe, legal and accessible abortion and birth control to be reversed or eroded any further.

We will vigorously mobilize activists across the country, and with your help we will bring hundreds of thousands to the nation's capital next spring. The four organizers have created a joint website (http://www.marchforchoice.org) where you can register and learn more. Of course we'll keep you updated on our plans, and we hope you'll be a part of NOW's growing delegation from your community.

We need your help to save women's freedom and women's lives and, in doing so, to highlight the growing divide between the extreme anti-women agenda that permeates official Washington and the mainstream pro-choice beliefs in this country.

Please make plans now to stand with us in Washington, DC on April 25th, and bring friends and family with you. We are marching for our mothers, our daughters, and ourselves -- our futures are on the line.

SAVE WOMEN'S LIVES: MARCH FOR FREEDOM OF CHOICE

PURPOSE:: To demonstrate overwhelming majority support for women's right to choose safe, legal abortion and birth control, and women's right to self-determination. We pledge our resources and commitment to saving reproductive freedom, choice and the right to privacy.
TIME & PLACE:: SUNDAY, APRIL 25, 2004, WASHINGTON, D.C.
ASSEMBLE:: 10 AM at the Lincoln Memorial
STEP-OFF:: 12 NOON
RALLY:: 1:00 to 4:00 PM on the National Mall
DELEGATIONS:: Any group having 20 or more participants may be a delegation. Two members of this delegation should be designated as facilitators. Delegations must register in order to be listed in March materials. Individual participants are enthusiastically encouraged!
CO-SPONSORS:: Organizations that support the March can be co-sponsors by agreeing to encourage their members to take part, or by committing to organize delegations to the March and spread the word. Co-sponsors are encouraged to make donations for March expenses. Co-sponsoring organizations will be asked to sign an agreement not to engage in partisan electoral activity in connection with the march.
SPECIAL NEEDS:: Special seating will be available for people with disabilities. The March program will be signed for the hearing impaired. The route is wheelchair accessible and transportation will be provided for those who cannot negotiate the route.
