Maine Senators Hold the Key to Senate Victory on Fair Pay
Excuse us for sending this alert again, but the staff for the Maine senators have said that they haven't received any phone calls on how important it is to support the Paycheck Fairness Act as a companion bill to the Ledbetter Fair Pay bill and that both bills come up together. A vote on Ledbetter could be as early as tomorrow afternoon and it would be great to have the Paycheck Fairness Act being voted on right then and there as well.
Action Needed:
Please call and email the staff directly. Both Senators Collins and Snowe have supported our equality issues in the past so these will be friendly but urgent calls to ask them to support the Paycheck Fairness bill. They have all the information that they need, including a packet from Representative Rosa DeLauro who led the effort in the house to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act as a companion to the Ledbetter bill. Your message should be:
"Please support bringing up the Paycheck Fairness Act as a companion bill to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act when the vote on fair pay comes to the Senate floor in the days ahead. This bill enjoys bipartisan support all across our country and your vote for cloture in support for the PFA will make sure that our efforts on fair pay will bring true progress for women workers."
Leave this message in voice mail, say it in person when you reach the staff contact, and copy and paste and add your own thoughts and persuasive points. For more information you can use, see our previous action alert.
