As A North Carolina Voter, You Are Key

It has been nearly 30 years since North Carolina went Democratic, but that is all about to change - AS A NORTH CAROLINA VOTER, YOU ARE KEY!

This message contains voter registration info, congressional candidate recommendations, and extensive recommendations for state-level offices.

DEADLINE FRIDAY: In order to contribute to this historic election, make sure you are registered to vote. The deadline is Friday October 10! If you are already registered, check out our voter resources.

North Carolina, with its 15 Electoral College votes, continues to be an important swing state. In a CNN/Time poll on Oct 6th, the presidential race was TIED, so every vote will count.

NOW PAC has endorsed the Obama/Biden ticket and we hope that North Carolina voters will elect the ticket that will do more for women and families.

This year there is possibility at every level to elect feminists to office: from United States President to Congress from the State Senate and House to Supreme Court Judges.

Obama-Biden: The Ticket For Women

Why Obama? For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said "yes" to women's rights, while John McCain has consistently said "no" -- NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women's rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance.

We join with Sen. Hillary Clinton in saying "NO" -- No Way, No How, No McCain! And we proudly stand arm-in-arm with her in putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work behind the next President of the United States -- Barack Obama, and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden.

Read NOW PAC's analysis about where Obama stands on the issues.

How YOU Can Get Involved!

  • Barack Obama and Joe Biden have great resources on their website, including helpful guides on how to talk to your neighbors about the issues, flyers, and how to find your nearest campaign office.
  • Check NOW PAC's Obama-Biden Website and our suggestions for getting involved!
  • Help Spread The Word with our flyer on why women should vote.

North Carolina Congressional Candidates Spotlight

Portrait of Kay Hagan

ENDORSED BY NOW PAC FOR US SENATE: Kay Hagan
web site

Kay Hagan is running to unseat one of the most conservative women in the Senate, Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina. Not unlike John McCain, Dole has voted with the Bush administration 92 percent of the time - lock step with an administration that has done nothing but attack the rights of women and girls. A victory for Kay Hagan will mean the removal of Dole, who was the only woman senator of either party to vote against a nonbinding resolution affirming Roe v. Wade as the law of the land.

Harry Taylor is committed to guaranteeing access to affordable healthcare to all North Carolinians. He was recommended to NOW PAC for endorsement by North Carolina NOW leaders based on his commitment to women's rights.

STATE RACES

North Carolina NOW PAC has been hard at work interviewing and screening candidates all over the state. Below is a list of "down ticket" feminist candidates who will seek to serve your community at the local level. You can also print the federal and state endorsements.
