Florida, with its 27 Electoral College votes, continues to be an important swing state. George W. Bush carried Florida in 2004 by 5% amid allegations of election trickery and now Florida is once again at the heart of the battle for the White House. NOW PAC endorsed the Obama/Biden ticket and we hope that Ohio voters will elect the ticket that will do more for women and families.

This year, Florida voters also have the exciting potential to send seven feminists to Congress who are committed to NOW's mission. Read more about these feminist candidates and how you can help them win.

Obama-Biden: The Ticket For Women

Why Obama? For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said "yes" to women's rights, while John McCain has consistently said "no" -- NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women's rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance.

We join with Sen. Hillary Clinton in saying "NO" -- No Way, No How, No McCain! And we proudly stand arm-in-arm with her in putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work behind the next President of the United States -- Barack Obama, and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden.

Annette Taddeo is running a tough race in the 18th District and needs your help to cross the victory line. Despite a Congressionally-mandated "goal" to grant five percent of federal contracts to women, Bush's Small Business Administration undermined this effort when it recently proposed a rule to limit this outreach to women in only four out of 2,300 industries. Taddeo promises to author legislation increasing contracting opportunities for women. Taddeo is committed to fighting for women and families in her district and across the country.

Florida Amendment #2

Take Action to Stop Amendment #2
Florida voters have a chance to stop this initiative that will take existing benefits away from unmarried Floridians and places government in the center of private decisions about personal relationships.

Text of the Amendment:
"Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."
