Senate to Vote on Fair Pay NEXT WEEK Convince Your Senators to Vote for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act Action Needed: Thanks to your calls and messages, the Senate is expected to debate and vote on the House-passed Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (H.R. 2831) next week. In honor of Equal Pay Day this Tuesday, April 22, please help encourage your Senators to not only vote for this bill but to convince their colleagues to vote in support of this essential effort to restore women's right to fair pay. Email or Call your Senators NOW With your help, we won the battle in the House of Representatives last year to restore our right to equal pay. With your help, we have generated enough steam to get it before the Senate next week. Now, in the next few days, we need your help once again to build the momentum to pass it in the Senate and send it to the president for signature. ACT NOW! Background: Last year the Supreme Court sharply limited the ability of women who have suffered pay discrimination to seek back pay and other compensation. Immediately after the Court denied Lilly Ledbetter's claim for pay discrimination last May, the House passed the the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and (better late than never) it's now the Senate's turn. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act will fix the Court's constitutional misinterpretation and ensure that pay discrimination victims get their fair day in court. This Act will simply return us to the longstanding rule that treated each and every discriminatory paycheck as a new act of discrimination. It's sad enough that women are still only paid 77 cents or less to men's dollar, even though civil rights laws banned wage discrimination over four decades ago. The Supreme Court's decision could push back much of the progress that women have been making in closing the wage gap. Congress must restore those rights. EMAIL your Senator today!
